Justice For All Welcomes USCIRF’s Recommendation Of India As A Country Of Particular Concern For 2021
(Washington D.C.) Justice For All welcomes the recommendation of India as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), released its report on International Religious Freedom in 2020 on Apr. 21, 2021. India has for the 2nd consecutive year, been recommended for designation as a Country of Particular Concern reiterating that it is among countries where religious freedoms are at the lowest in the world.
In making the recommendation, USCIRF has shown a commitment to their core goals. The recommendation of India is a step to correcting the degradation that has been seen in India over the years of Modi’s administration. Modi belongs to the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, a Nazi-inspired fascist organization, which wants to turn India into a Hindu state. In their goal, their followers have attacked, beaten and killed many minorities, including Christians, Sikhs and Dalits, but the brunt of their hate filled attacks have been borne by the Muslims of India.
“We commend the USCIRF commissioners for their courage and consistency in their pressure on India by declaring it a Country of Particular Concern. Whereas one expects China and Burma to violate religious freedoms, the largest democracy in the world simply must match its democratic rhetoric. We urge USCIRF to engage the State department in an early dialogue before they once again disregard their recommendation,” stated Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, CEO of Justice For All.
Zahir Adil, lead, Save India From Fascism, said “This is not against India, in fact, by the recommendation, we hope that India will see it as a reason to improve its situation. No matter what religion the people of India follow, they should all contribute in harmony and peace towards the country’s progress. No one should be made to feel out-of-place as an Indian”.
USCIRF’s recommendation will now be considered by the Secretary of State Antony Blinken in making the final determination. Unlike last year, when the State Department chose to not designate India as a CPC, we hope that the further degradation of India over the past year will be considered in making the decision for 2021. A strong stand by the United States is needed to tell every country of the world that the US does care for religious freedom and human rights.
