March 13, 2025 – Washington, D.C. – Human rights organization Justice For All is sounding the alarm over the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) drastic reduction in food vouchers for Rohingya refugees. The cuts, which take effect April 1, 2025, will leave over 1.2 million refugees in Bangladesh with just $6 per month for food—half of the previous allowance. Newly arriving refugees will not receive these rations.

“This is a death sentence for thousands of Rohingya refugees,” said Imam Malik Mujahid, President of Justice For All and Chair of Burma Task Force. “How can a mother feed her children on just $6 a month? The world must step up and prevent a catastrophe.”

Food Crisis in the World’s Largest Refugee Camp

The Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh—the world’s largest and most overcrowded refugee settlement—are already struggling with severe food shortages, malnutrition, and security threats. A 2023 food ration cut led to record-high child malnutrition rates, and with Ramadan beginning, families are now facing starvation instead of relief.

A Justice For All delegation visited the camps in December 2024, reporting shocking levels of hunger. “I spoke with a mother who hadn’t eaten all day so her child could have a single meal,” said Kausar Adil, a humanitarian volunteer with Justice For All. “This is not just a crisis—it’s an emergency.”

Justice For All’s Call to Action

Justice For All is urging the UN, Bangladesh, and global donors to act immediately:

  • Emergency Funding to restore full WFP food vouchers.
  • Registration of New Arrivals to ensure all Rohingya receive aid.
  • Enhanced Security Measures to dismantle armed gangs in the camps.
  • Economic Opportunities to allow refugees to engage in work and trade.
  • An Urgent Humanitarian Summit in Cox’s Bazar to coordinate aid efforts.
  • An Expedited International Conference on the Rohingya crisis before summer.

UN Secretary General Must Act Now

While UN Secretary General António Guterres is in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh , Justice For All is urging him to intervene immediately.

“This is a global moral test,” said Mujahid. “The international community must act now to prevent widespread hunger, suffering, and death.”

Interviews with Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, Imam Saffet Catovic, delegates to camps and Rohingya on the ground are available.
