Justice For All Statement on Mass Detentions in Kashmir
Justice For All condemns the mass detentions in Kashmir as an alarming escalation of state repression. The arbitrary arrests of over 500 individuals, many of whom have no proven links to the February 5 attack, violate fundamental human rights and international norms. Our team has collected testimonies from directly impacted families, highlighting the fear and devastation these actions have caused in Kashmiri communities.
Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, Chair of Justice For All, stated: “The mass detentions in Kashmir represent an unjust form of collective punishment, violating the principles of justice and human dignity. The Indian government must be held accountable for its treatment of the Kashmiri people, and we call on the international community to intervene against this blatant abuse of power.”
Kashmiri parliamentarian Ruhullah Mehdi also denounced the crackdown, saying, “I fail to imagine the terror of a family whose loved ones now lie in the abyss of an opaque security system. This is not security. This is collective retribution disguised as counterterrorism.”
Justice For All urges the U.S. government and the international community to take immediate action against these violations, ensuring justice, transparency, and the protection of Kashmiri civil liberties.
The U.S. must take a firm stance against India’s use of mass detentions and emergency laws that facilitate human rights violations in Kashmir. A failure to respond risks legitimizing state repression and further entrenching instability in the region. Justice For All urges the State Department to act swiftly to uphold fundamental human rights and protect Kashmiri civilians from unjust persecution.
Additionally, we call on the United Nations to uphold its resolutions regarding Kashmir and ensure that the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination is respected in accordance with international law. Furthermore, we urge world media to cover these developments, as the Indian government has muzzled Kashmiri media, severely restricting the flow of information from the region.
