Understanding the Importance of Standing Against Palestinian Ethnic Cleansing and Apartheid

Justice For All strongly condemns the ongoing violent assault of Palestinians by Israeli forces and settlers in the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah. The unfolding crimes against humanity in the region, which include settler colonialism, arbitrary detention and murder, constitute clear cases of ethnic cleansing and apartheid.

We join the international community in expressing our outrage at Israeli police forces and politicians, who have relentlessly attacked Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah, including at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest religious site in the world for Muslims.

Justice For All calls upon global governance to take urgent, multilateral action against Israeli government-backed settler organizations actively targeting Palestinian-owned homes in Sheikh Jarrah. The eviction of families from their homes and ancestral lands remains unacceptable. We urge the international community to also recognize that Palestinians have been inhabiting this neighbourhood for several decades.

Immediate recommendations for restoring Palestinian human rights include:

  • Immediately releasing detained Palestinian protestors who have peacefully expressed solidarity with Palestinian families facing eviction from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah
  • Calling on the United States and Canadian federal lawmakers to stand up for and protect the 13 Palestinian families, who were ordered by the Israeli Supreme Court to leave their homes by May and August 2021
  • Urging the Israeli Supreme Court to question illegal land claims submitted by Israeli settlers, and fairly investigate appeals submitted by Palestinian families challenging evictions
  • The United States reassessing its $3.8 billion in annual funding to Israel, ensuring this aid does not, in any way, fund the suppression and crimes against humanity of Palestinians

We must collectively express our skepticism that change is possible unless, and until, the international justice system implements accountability of right-wing Israeli policies and politicians targeting Palestinians. This accountability must include the investigation of those Israeli settler organizations that are currently headquartered in the United States.

In 2009 alone, 67 Palestinians were already evicted from this neighbourhood. Justice For All calls on all allies, activists and action takers to stand against the oppressive occupation of East Jerusalem.

Israel's Abuse of Children

Since 2000, Israel has detained and prosecuted more than 10,000 Palestinian children. Israel is the only country in the world that prosecutes children in military courts. Every year, Israel detains and prosecutes between 500 and 700 Palestinian children. Most of these children were charged with “throwing stones,” a crime punishable under military law by up to 20 years in prison. These children are held imprisoned without due process often for months, with a conviction rate of 99.74 percent. Convictions are based on forced confessions.

Physical and psychological torture, humiliation, verbal abuse, and solitary confinement are used to obtain forced confessions. They are often arrested without arrest warrants. They arrive at interrogation centers bound, blindfolded, and sleep-deprived. They are humiliated with strip searches and they have no right to legal counsel during interrogation.

Palestinian children are also held under administrative detentions, a form of imprisonment without charge or trial. Under administrative detentions, they are never presented with charges. Their detention is based on secret evidence which is not disclosed to their attorneys so they have no legal means of challenging the detention.

As a punitive measure, they are denied food, water, toilet facilities and even critical medicines during investigation. In 2018, one child went into a coma during custody and lost his eyesight because he was denied medicine even when the family informed prison authorities explicitly about his critical medical condition affecting his kidneys and liver and risk to his life.

Violence and traumatic experiences during detention impacts their physical and mental health which has a far reaching impact on their social life, and academic career.  their life. 50 percent of the children can not continue their studies after their release.

Justice For All believes that the US government who funds Israeli government each year is directly complicit in this brutality.

You can help stop these atrocities against the children by supporting the bill H.R 2590

Attack On Al-Aqsa Is A War Crime

1) put an end to the forced and illegal displacement of Palestinians and demolition of Palesinian homes in occupied Sheikh Jarrah and Al Bustan neighborhoods

2) immediately halt the attacks on Al Aqsa mosque and Palestinian worshippers

3) halt the attacks on Gaza especially women and children

The Geneva Conventions prohibit the seizure of occupied territories. Israel’s actions are in violation of international humanitarian law and constitute a war crime.

Attacks on cultural sites during armed conflicts are considered to be a war crime under a number of international laws and treaties.

The Rome Statute of 1998, which established the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague, declared that anyone “intentionally directing attacks against buildings dedicated to religion, education, art, science or charitable purposes [or] historic monuments” was committing a war crime.
